Finger tape is very useful for protecting the skin from abrasion against gym holds. The tape I use on the hands and fingers is Evolv Magic Finger Tape, available here on Amazon.com. I have found this tape to be very comfortable to use and it stays on well.
Using finger tape can extend your bouldering session time. Let me illustrate: when I boulder for 35 minutes, my fingers are fine. When I boulder for 40 to 45 minutes, blisters develop:
Finger tape applied in the right places can be a great help. Since a bouldering pass is usually good for the entire day, by extending time on the wall the tape allows better value for the gym entry fee.
The tape in the image above is the Evolv Magic Finger Tape. The tape is very thin, but strong, with a breathable loose weave, and it sticks to itself. It is very easy to use: cut off the length you need, wrap it around the finger, and press the tape to itself to have it hold.
Note: Always make sure that you double-back the end when you cut it, or the next time you want to use it, finding the end of the tape may be next to impossible.
To keep this excellent tape in easy-to-use condition, store the roll in a tin, or in a plastic container, because if the roll gets squished the layers will fuse together.

Sharp little scissors are needed to remove the tape. If Munkees Mini Folding Scissors mail to your area, I am envious! Based on the great reviews, those are what I would go with. Check out the little Munkees folding scissors on Amazon by clicking here.
If the Munkees scissors don’t ship to your area, here is a nice alternative, also found on Amazon.com.
